September Month of Malawi Tourism Activities

By Wendy Mkandawire

Tourism Public Relations Officer Joseph Nkosi says Malawi has dedicated the entire month of September to tourism activities as the country joins other United Nations Tourism member states to commemorate World Tourism Day.

He says this year’s theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” underscores the importance of digital tools and artificial intelligence in improving the travel experience and enhancing sustainable tourism development.

Nkosi said the Ministry of Industrialization, Business, Trade, and Tourism, together with partners, has lined up a series of activities aimed at creating awareness and promoting tourism.

He stated that the official national event will be held in Lilongwe on 28 September and will kick off with a tourism parade from Mbowe to the city center.

The PRO noted that Malawi has made significant strides in the tourism sector but stressed the need to protect and conserve all tourism structures.

He further stated that tourism has the potential to improve the country’s foreign exchange reserves if properly managed.

According to Nkosi, World Tourism Day was established in 1980 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization to raise awareness of the social, cultural, political, and economic value of tourism.
