The Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority, PMRA, has suspended 10 pharmacy personnel and business premises for offences including operating unlicensed wholesale businesses and mismanaging medicines.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 9 September 2026 and signed by Director General Charles Chimenya, PMRA said the decision followed its 87th Board meeting held on 30-31 July in Lilongwe.
The Authority suspended Pirilan Msambo’s private clinic for 6 months for operating an unlicensed wholesale pharmaceutical business and sourcing drugs from unregistered dealers.
Elita Ngwira, a Pharmacy Technician in Balaka, was suspended for 2 years for tampering with RIV books to conceal evidence of stolen medical products.
Other cases involved unauthorized stocking of registered medicines and diversion of drugs from health facilities.
Malawi Health Equity Network Executive Director George Jone commended PMRA for the timely action and urged the public to report illegal drug sales to help protect public health
Jobe further said that any malpractice of selling drugs illegally encountered by health personnel should be reported quickly to avoid persistent stealing of drugs in the health facilities.
