Lilongwe Police on a Manhunt for Alleged Stabbing Leading to Death

Lilongwe Police have launched a manhunt for Nimiladi Chinjani after he allegedly stabbed 23-year-old Jabesi Hendreson to death in Nathenje on Sunday, July 19, 2026, during the night.
Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Hastings Chigalu, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are also underway into the torching of seven houses and the destruction of property belonging to the suspect’s relatives by angry villagers
According to Chigalu, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and the deceased, along with other people, were chatting at a shop in the village when a fierce fight broke out between the two for reasons not yet established.
Hendreson sustained fatal stab wounds during the fight.
He said that following the fatal incident, enraged villagers attacked and set ablaze seven houses, destroying assorted household property belonging to Chinjani’s relatives.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been taken to Nkhoma Mission Hospital, awaiting a postmortem examination.
Police said they are continuing their investigations to trace and arrest the murder suspect and to identify and apprehend those responsible for the arson.
Chinjani hails from Pitros Village, while Hendreson hailed from Nyangayabira Village, both under Traditional Authority Mazengera in Lilongwe District.
