Police in Lilongwe have launched investigations following an armed robbery that left a businessman dead and a security guard seriously injured near Dudu Poultry Farm, along the Malangalanga–ADMARC Forest road, on July 30, 2026.
According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Hastings Chigalu, the deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Mangani, 32, a businessman based at Mitundu Trading Centre. The injured victim is Chikumbutso Mayola, 35, a security guard at Malangalanga ADMARC.
Preliminary investigations show that Mangani was driving his two-tonne pickup truck, registration NS 8094, from Mitundu to Dudu Poultry Farm to buy about 250 chickens valued at approximately K4.25 million.
Upon reaching Malangalanga Forest near the poultry farm at around 23:00 hours,he was allegedly confronted by two armed men. The assailants shot him in the head, killing him instantly, before robbing him of cash.
Security guards from Dudu Poultry Farm responded after witnessing the robbery in progress. This forced the suspects to flee toward the nearby Malangalanga ADMARC Forest.
As they escaped, the suspects allegedly opened fire on other security guards in the area. During the exchange, Mayola sustained a gunshot wound to the lower jaw. He was rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.
Chigalu further said that, Police found Mangani’s body lying outside the passenger door of his vehicle, which had veered off and stopped on the roadside embankment.
“Officers recovered a spent cartridge from the vehicle’s dashboard, and the driver’s side window had been shattered.
Preliminary findings suggest the deceased and the attackers were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting”,he added.
- The body of the deceased has been taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police say a manhunt is underway to arrest the suspects, who remain at large.
