Inspirational Quotes for the Weekend

By Dr Charles Leyman Kachitsa

Every nation has a spirit and this is a representative of all the cultures within that nation. And as you know culture encompasses the beliefs in people and in the case of nations, this is the sum of the beliefs of all the tribes, classes, religions and all subcultural groups of the nations. Depending on that belief, some nations take on a connotative religious belief identity and at the basic level it is easier for people to make association of what that might entail on behavioural expectations and values for instance whether Christian or Islamic or Hinduism.

The spirit of a nation gives its values. Thus it appropriately would highlight the values, the most human attributes that are given much focus by the nation. In others words it defines what the expected values in terms of people’s behaviour, the accepted norms and what people put a blind eye on are. It is in such that nations are distinguished from those that have progressed to greater heights versus the ones that are still struggling to find their feet and or discover what their true spirit is.

Unfortunately for most developing nations, their spirit is dead. In fact countries that took control of other nations start the process by killing their spirit, their true identity. It is only by killing the spirit of a people, their values, that they are easily subdued. This means development of a nation is a simple formula, discover and or awaken its spirit and a nation will wake up on to the path of progress. Without knowing, most nations education systems and other systems prevent such reawakening. This is why we have a lot of the so called ‘independent’ nations still sleeping on their laurels (riches) awaiting some messiah to point them on to the right direction of where their spirit lies. And so the battle continues of who has seen it (wachiona ndani?), until we find that spirit within us.

The quotes this week are taken as a continuation extraction from a book that has practical tips for living a happy fulfilled positive life. I am sure the few selected quotations from this book listed below will enlighten you to one or two life lessons. Read and enjoy:

LETTERS FROM J.D ROCKEFELLER TO HIS SON – Perspective, ideology and Wisdom

“believing that something can be done will provide us with creative solutions and bring out our various creative abilities. On the contrary, not believing that things can be done successfully is tantamount to shutting down our wisdom in creative problem-solving which will not only hinder our creative ability, but will also destroy our ideals. The so-called aspirational elements turns out to be the foundation of creation and achievement, but that is it.”

“I have always thought that a person’s personality and ambitions, current status and positions are related to who they associate themselves with. If he often associates with negative people, he himself will become negative. If he associates closely with insignificant people, he will have many petty habits. On the other hand, if he is constantly influenced by important people, it will improve his ideological level, frequent contact with successful people with ambition will also enable him to develop the ambitions and actions needed to succeed.”

“When you have any difficulties, it is wise to find people of top quality to help you. Asking a loser for advice is as ridiculous as asking a quack to treat a terminal illness. Your future is very important. Do not ask for advice from a yenta, because this kind of people has no prospects in their lives. ——– You have to pay attention to your environment. Just as food supplies the body, mental activity will also nourish your mental health. Make your environment serve your work, not drag you down, Do not let those resistance, that is, people who pull you on your hind legs, make you sluggish. The way to let the environment help you succeed is to get closer to the positive and successful people and to interact less with the negative people.”

“Since you are determined to pursue victory, you must go all out. Only by going all out can there be glorious achievements. This is especially true when the competition begins. To put it nicely, this is an effort to gain an early advantage, hoping to establish an exclusive position, but to put it bluntly, putting in effort is equal to depriving others a chance. At the same time, we have to be positive and brave, and have the courage to ‘swallow whales’. I believe that talented competitors are always borne by the warriors. This is a time-honoured law.”
