Emerging dancehall artist Rex Chimombo, popularly known as Trinket, says he is preparing to release a major collaboration with a well-known artist as he continues to build momentum in Malawi’s music industry.
The upcoming project, which he has chosen not to disclose in detail for now, is a remix of his single “No Silence” one of the songs that helped raise his profile among music fans.
In an interview with the Malawi News Agency (Mana), Trinket said he is currently working on five major projects following his recent signing with Atsenga Entertainment.
The artist said the record label recognised his potential and committed to supporting his musical growth and career development.
“This partnership will help me grow, gain more exposure and achieve success in my music career,” he said.
Trinket said his passion for music was inspired by his uncle, who taught him how to compose songs, while his personal life experiences continue to shape his lyrics and artistic direction.
“Some people know me because of ‘No Silence’, while others know me through ‘Bless All’, which I released two weeks ago. I consider both songs to be my breakthrough projects,” he said.
Explaining one of the lines from his song “Bless All” “Ndeno akayesa kundiviika mmatope, sadziwa nnakulira muzithaphwi ine”, Trinket said the lyrics reflect the hardships he faced growing up.
“I came up with that line because I grew up struggling. Some people try to pull me down without realising that I have already survived difficult situations,” he explained.
The artist said he prefers creating music based on real-life experiences that resonate with different groups of people, including youths, parents and children.
Despite his growing popularity, Trinket acknowledged that financial challenges have been one of the biggest obstacles in his music journey.
“There was a time when I could only release two songs a year and still struggle to promote them,” he said.
He added that his Christian faith has helped him remain focused and determined despite the challenges.
“I believe in God and never gave up on my dream. That is how I have managed to overcome many difficulties,” said Trinket.
The artist described the release of “No Silence” as one of the defining moments in his career.
“That was my favourite moment because many people started showing interest in my music and asking for my older songs,” he said.
Trinket has since encouraged fellow musicians to believe in themselves, remain patient and continue working hard toward their goals.
