Malawi Road Authority Announces Rehabilitation of Chiweta Karonga Road

The Road Authority in Malawi has announced it will commence the procurement of the process for rehabilitation of the 105 kilometres Chiweta Karonga section of M001 Road .
Speaking with Public relations officer for the Road Authority Laurent Kumuchenga said the government of Malawi has secured funding for the rehabilitation of the road section as part of it’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure, enhancing road safety, promoting economic growth and strengthening regional connectivity.
He further said that Chiweta Karonga road forms an integral part of Malawi’s transport network and the north _ south corridor, facilitating domestic and international trade regional integration, tourism, and the movement of people and goods between Malawi and neighbouring countries
He further said as part of project preparation detailed engineering designs, environmental and social safeguard requirements and bidding documents have been completed.
” In a major milestone towards project implementation, the Road Authority on behalf of the government of Malawi, issued an international tender for the rehabilitation works on 17 June 2026″, he added.
He also assured Malawians that to promote transparency and competitiveness in the procurement process, the Roads Authority has scheduled a site visit for prospective bidders on 24 June 2026.
Kumuchenga further said that the visit will provide interested contractors with an opportunity to assess site conditions and gain a better understanding of the projects scope and technical requirements.
The Road Authority said it remains a commitment to support road users, communities, Businesses and stakeholders as the government advances the transformative national infrastructure project. ‎
