The Ministry of Labour, Skills, and Innovation has called on Malawi’s youth to embrace Technical and Vocational Education and Training, saying it is key to driving sustainable national development.
Speaking during the 2026 National Skills Competition celebrations, Minister of Labour Joel Chigona said Malawi 2063 is anchored on three pillars: agricultural productivity and commercialization, industrialization, and urbanization.
Chigona emphasized that Malawi would not advance in industrialization if it continued to depend on importing human resources to build factories and commercialize agriculture without local technicians to service modern agro-processing machinery.The Minister further stressed the need for resilience as Malawi faces severe climate shocks.
In his remarks TEVETA Board Chairperson Gilbert Precious Chilinde said that the competition is a very important vital call for individuals to embrace technical and vocational skills in malawi
” Skills should be celebrated because they build national through the service economy”, he added.
He said TEVETA remains commitment to creating platforms where skills can be performed,shown and celebrated.
The National Skills Competition, has equiped young people with the confidence experience and inspiration needed to shape careers, strengthen communities and contribute to Malawi’s future growth and innovation.
