Mighty Wanderers have moved to the top of the TNM Super League table after securing a hard fought 2 – 0 victory over Songwe Border United at Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday.
The Nomads struggled to find the back of the net in the first half despite creating several chances, as Songwe Border goalkeeper produced a number of fine saves to keep the scores level.
However, the second half brought a turnaround, Clement Nyondo broke the deadlock in the 86th minute before Sama Thiery sealed the win in added time (90+7), and ensuring Wanderers collected maximum points.
Speaking after the match, Wanderers Head Coach Bob Mpinganjira praised his players for their determination and resilience.
“Im very happy with the boys for working very hard. It was a good game, though we failed to score in the first half despite creating many chances. In the second half, the boys didnt relax, they kept pushing until we managed to score and win,” said Mpinganjira.
On his part, Songwe Border United Head Coach Edwin Kawonga commended his players fighting spirit despite the defeat.
“I just want to congratulate my boys because they worked hard from the first minute to the last. They played well, but got tired towards the end, which allowed Wanderers to win. All in all, we played a good game,” said Kawonga.
The victory comes just days after Wanderers thrashed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 3 – 0 in the Blantyre Derby, making it two consecutive league wins for the Nomads.
With this result, Mighty Wanderers now sit at the top of the TNM Super League table with 51 points from 21 games, overtaking FCB Nyasa Big Bullets who have 49 points from the same number of matches.
