Former Mighty Wanderers goalkeeper William Thole has been crowned the Golden Glove winner in Zimbabwe following a remarkable debut season in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, keeping 17 clean sheets in 31 matches.
Thole, who played for Simba Bhora Football Club, was instrumental in guiding the team to a historic third-place league finish.
Speaking to the Malawi News Agency, Thole said the achievement was a personal challenge to improve and contribute to his team.
“To finish the season with 17 clean sheets and win the Golden Glove is a blessing. I thank my teammates and coaches for their support, “he said, pledging continued commitment to his club and to representing Malawi with excellence at the international level.
FAM Communications Officer Gomezgani Zakazaka described Tholes success as a reflection of Malawi’s football potential.
“FAM is very proud of William Tholes performance in Zimbabwe. Winning the Golden Glove in his first season demonstrates the exceptional quality he possesses. His success is a motivation to many young Malawian footballers who aspire to play at higher levels,” Zakazaka said.
