Royal Coaches on Sunday launched a new passenger bus service in Neno, introducing a route from Kambale through Neno Boma to Limbe in Blantyre, in a move aimed at easing transport challenges faced by commuters in the district.
The launch ceremony, held at Neno Community Hall, was presided over by Neno District Council Director of Planning and Development, Charles Lomoni, who was the guest of honour.

“The buses are meant to serve all residents in the district. We want to extend reliable transport to rural areas where United Transport of Malawi used to operate,” said Royal Coaches Managing Director, Mark Katsonga.
Katsonga said the new route will improve connectivity between rural Neno and Blantyre, noting that operations will officially begin on Monday, November 3, 2025. He added that the company plans to expand services to Mwanza and later Chikwawa if the initiative proves successful.
He explained that Royal Coaches is reviving rural transport links that had become dormant over the years, providing communities with affordable and consistent means of travel.
Guest of honour Lomoni hailed the development, describing it as timely and vital for local economic growth. He said the service will help residents access markets, healthcare and education with greater ease.
“The bus comes at a good time, especially as road construction is ongoing. We urge residents to support the service by using it responsibly so that this progress is sustained,” he said.
Lomoni added that the bus will not only provide affordable and reliable transport to Blantyre but also stimulate local business and trade in the district.
A local resident, George Phiri from Chifenthe in Traditional Authority Chekuchekus area, expressed gratitude, saying the bus service will significantly reduce mobility challenges, as many villagers previously relied on motorcycles due to the lack of regular transport.
