Private vs Public Worship

By Minister Collin Chingota

There are two kinds of worship; Private and Public worship. It is very important that we distinguish the two and understand how the Lord would wish us to handle those two kinds of worship

Matthew 6:3-4 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

One of the ways of worshipping God is through giving to the needy. You see, giving, just like any other forms of worship like prayer, has a risk that instead of making it private it becomes public. The main difference between private and public worship lies in the attitude of the heart. Every kind of worship must be private, aimed at please God and not men. Unfortunately, many expressions of worship are public in nature, and men have the tendency of seeking praise from men, that is why we see people announcing to the world of their giving.

But the Bible says, your left hand should not see what your right hand has done. No matter how public your worship is, see to it that you do not do it to gain man’s reward and praise. Do it entirely to please and glorify God!
