Inspirational Quotes for the WEEKEND – Leadership

By Dr Charles Leyman Kachitsa

The subject of leadership has evolved from the time that people believed it was an innate phenomenon found in some who are born with it and denied to others. It’s understanding has progressed on to the present time where the belief that it can be untangled and its tenets passed on to people otherwise not qualifying based on their physical face value  for their enjoyment, has waded off.

Throughout history each passage of decades has looked at the previous one with disdain as to how dare its so called leaders would have got away with what would be unacceptable in present times. More so the understanding have moved on as people start to find new meanings for their language words that could have been either soft or hard, now seen the opposite way of either of the two.

Culture has played its part especially in that the advent of globalisation has meant a lot of crisscrossing of leadership practices which has meant some understanding being declared redundant. Some of the words in describing leadership in cultural context might have lost their meaning and understanding making original transitioning harder as those  foreign to the land who would have their own fixed agenda  try to make their plans work without arousing suspicion until all is established.

In all, the lesson in leadership steams in one noble assertion which is that good leaders allow their followers to shine with their talent fully displayed to all. Afterall that is the bare definition of leadership in that, leaders work through people aside the fact of influencing these followers towards a stated cause. That cause must be clearly defined and values paramount towards its attainment put across in a manner that is understood by all involved.

The quotes this week are a continuation extraction from a book that makes happy work, how do you joyfully do what you do. I am sure the selected few quotations listed below from this book will enlighten you to one or two life lessons. Read and enjoy:

MAKING HAPPY WORK by Mick Timpson

“We mostly live in a world shaped by mental chatter, which impacts on what we think, see and do. We give a lot of attention to that inner voice, forgetting that our real lives are unfolding around us right now. — The important point is that the voice in your head is useful. We are not in the process of switching off that voice. Not least because that would be impossible. But instead we are learning to change our relationship to it. With practice, we begin to notice that there is more going on inside us than we thought, or what we have been led to believe. When we manage to change our relationship to the voice, the conversation changes. Instead of the mind worrying and fretting over what to do, the mind knows what to do.”

“We all want to find happiness and avoid suffering. It’s just that many of us are looking in the wrong place.”

“It’s true. We don’t need to go anywhere different or be anyone different. All we need to do is change our perspective on what is happening right in this moment. It’s that simple. And that is the advantage ……………”

“Your experience is a matter of where and how you place your attention. It’s nothing to do with what you think you see. It’s what you actually see that counts.”

“Maybe then we need to expand our vocabulary and talk about life satisfaction and wellbeing. Some academics and positive psychologists argue that wellbeing, just as Jack Hawley said, can be measured in terms of our overall happiness or satisfaction with life. But perhaps more importantly wellbeing, happiness and personal flourishing is found in knowing that we make a difference and that our true capabilities and potential are maximised in a creative, fulfilling and useful way, which in turn nurtures that innate joy and satisfaction with the way things are.”
