The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has dismissed allegations that South African businessman Zunaid Moti has been appointed to a diplomatic position by the Government of Malawi and accorded preferential treatment, including the award of government contracts.
In a statement signed by Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Justin Saidi, the OPC described the claims as “false” and “designed to mislead the public and tarnish the image of government and President Arthur Peter Mutharika particularly the administration’s commitment to integrity, transparency, and the fight against corruption.
“Mr. Moti has not been appointed to any government position, nor has he been awarded any government contract,” reading part of the statement.
The OPC has urged the public to verify information before sharing it and to use digital platforms responsibly.
The statement further reiterated that government remains firmly focused on rebuilding the economy, restoring public confidence, and implementing transformative reforms.
