Neno Council attributes LAPA success to teamwork and collaboration

Neno District Council Chairperson, Clr, Joseph Chiphaliwali, has urged council members of staff to continue working hard to maintain the council’s top position in the Local Authority Performance Assessment (LAPA).

He made the call on Friday during a celebration party held to acknowledge the council’s outstanding performance in the 2024 LAPA, as the local authority emerged the best performing council in Malawi.

The celebration on LAPA on the council’s performance also served as farewell to some staff members that were transferred to work in other districts.

Chiphaliwali emphasized on the need for collaboration among council officers and various stakeholders, saying this is key to sustaining development gains in the district.

“Being number one is easy, but maintaining that position is the real task. I urge all of us to hold hands and work together to retain this achievement,” he said.

Neno District Commissioner, Rosemary Nawasha, attributed the success to strong teamwork and peaceful coexistence between elected council members and council officers.

She highlighted that the award reflects dedication, professionalism and commitment to serving the people of Neno with integrity and innovation.

“This award belongs to the people of Neno. It reminds us that, with coordination guided by a clear vision, we can deliver for real change to our communities,” said Nawasha, adding that the recognition was enough to motivate the council to aim even higher.

Senior Chief Dambe commended the District Commissioner for her leadership; urging council officers to continue maintaining professionalism, especially in managing public funds.

“The council achieved this because of the District Commissioner’s leadership. I ask you to work even harder so that next time, you attain a 100 percent score,” he added.

Member of Parliament for Neno South, Mark Katsonga, also thanked Nawasha for her leadership which earned the district number one position.

Katsonga hailed the team spirit and urged Neno District Council team to work hard to maintain the position in LAPA.

In the 2024 LAPA, Neno District Council scooped first position with an impressive 93 percent score.
