Despite a lacklustre performance in the first round of the NBS National Division League, Mchinji Villa has finished the round on a high note.
Villa hosted fellow strugglers, Jenda United, on Saturday at the Mchinji Community Ground and were obviously a better side.
In the 4th Minute, Villa were a goal up thanks to Stephano George, who slotted home the ball inside the area.
Villa continued to threaten and dominated the visitors and scored a second goal through Justice Honde, who unleashed a powerful shot, giving goalkeeper Noel Chirwa no chance.
At the recess, it was 2 – 0 to Villa.
The second half produced no goals despite both teams creating chances.
Jenda’s Kelvin Kadammanja and Watson Nyirenda tried to threaten Villa but were no match for the defensive play of man of the match Jafali John and Joseph Banda. Full-time, it ended 2 – 0.
Jenda United Coach Uchizi Nkunika said his team needs to beef up.
“I have young and inexperienced players who need guidance. As we go to the second round, we will try to look for experienced players to lead the young ones,” said Nkunika.
Coach for Villa Joseph Kamwendo said his team has ended on a good note which will help him also start the second round well.
“It was not the kind of play we wanted but we managed to score and not concede. The finish to the first round will give us the morale to start the second round on a good note,” said Kamwendo.
The win takes Villa to 13 points and up to position nine from 11.
Jenda is still anchoring the table in the 12-team NBS National Division League with three points.
