Masters FC have formally requested the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) to reschedule their fixture against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, saying they will use alternative power instead of ESCOM electricity.
Speaking on Monday, Masters Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Moyo confirmed that the request has been submitted to SULOM, adding that the club first approached FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to seek their consent for an evening kick-off.
Moyo admitted the club is aware of two blackout incidents that marred its previous evening games at Bingu National Stadium, but stressed they are now fully prepared with enough diesel to power the floodlights for the full 90 minutes without interruption.
The fixture was initially set for 3 PM by SULOM due to the country’s persistent power outages and uncertainty over electricity supply.
Beyond lighting, Moyo said the club will pre-sell tickets ahead of match day to reduce congestion and chaos at entry points.
He added that embracing night football is vital under the football transformation agenda, arguing that players must adapt to evening matches to compete effectively in international competitions.
Masters is now awaiting SULOM to inspect fuel reserves and lighting installations before granting final approval for the evening kick-off.
There was no immediate comment on the matter from both SULOM and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, as our phone calls went unanswered despite several attempts.
Masters Security FC and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are expected to kick off on Sunday 1 October, 2026 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
