Seven royal houses under the Paramount Chief Kyungu Chieftaincy have joined forces to form a development initiative, the Mpeta 7 Trust, aimed at promoting unity, cultural preservation, and social welfare within their lineage.
The royal houses, which include Mwanganda, Mwanyongo, Malema, Mwakabanga, Mwangolera, Mwakatundu, and Mwangwebu, marked the launch of the trust on Sunday by donating assorted items to Violet Mwafulirwa, a widow regarded as the mother of all seven royal houses.
Speaking after the donation in Karonga, Group Village Head Malema, who chairs the Mpeta 7 Trust, said the initiative was designed to strengthen bonds among the royal families while improving livelihoods through economic activities.
“We realised that unity is our strength as royal families under the Kyungu Chieftaincy. By forming this trust, we want to uplift each other economically while preserving our Ngonde culture and traditions,” said Malema. He added that members of the Mpeta 7 Trust contribute K5,000 each month to support initiatives including welfare assistance, cultural activities, and charitable work.
“Our vision is to make this trust a symbol of unity and empowerment. We also welcome support from well-wishers who share our dream of strengthening our royal heritage and community,” he said.
The widow, Mwafulirwa, expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying it reflected love and respect from her children in the royal lineage.
I am deeply touched by this visit and the gifts. What you have done today shows that our culture of caring and togetherness is still alive, she said, urging the royal houses to continue working in unity for the benefit of future generations.
“When you stand together like this, you honour not only your ancestors but also strengthen the Kyungu Chieftaincy. May this unity continue to grow,” she added.
The Mpeta 7 Trust plans to roll out community development and cultural preservation programmes in the coming months, targeting vulnerable members of the community.
