Karonga Spikers Volleyball Club has appealed to the corporate world and well-wishers to assist the team with financial support amounting to K1.5 million to enable it to participate in the upcoming Raiply National Volleyball Finals scheduled for November 14 to 16 in Mzuzu.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Monday, the club’s Team Manager, Develliers Mwale, said the team, which is self-sponsored, is facing serious financial challenges ahead of the national competition.
He said the funds are required to cover food, transport, and accommodation expenses during the tournament.
“We are appealing to companies, organizations, and individuals to come forward and support us. The players have worked hard to qualify for the finals, and we do not want financial constraints to stop them from representing Karonga on the national stage,” said Mwale.
District Sports Officer for Karonga, Doma Ngoma said Karonga Spikers is among the few teams that have performed impressively despite lacking sponsorship and that the team’s success is a source of pride for the district.
“When a minor sporting discipline performs well, it is something to celebrate hence my appeal to business people and the corporate world to support the team, which is doing a commendable job in putting volleyball on the map in Karonga,” Ngoma added.
A total of 12 teams are expected to battle for honors in the Raiply National Volleyball Championship, which will take place at Katoto and Rosedale Volleyball Courts in Mzuzu.
