Kanengo Police Station convened a high-stakes stakeholder meeting, with traditional leaders from surrounding areas for a dialogue at the station, aimed at dissolving deep-seated tensions and establishing a unified front against security threats.
According the Public Relations Sub Inspector Macfarlen Mseteka, the meeting was held on June 30, 2026 with chiefs under the jurisdiction of Sub-Traditional Authority (TA) Chatata and Sub-Traditional Authority (TA) Nanseta.
Presiding over the meeting, the Officer in Charge, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dan Sauteni, painted a stark picture of the security challenges undermining public safety.
Sauteni specifically decried the growing chieftaincy wrangles that have fractured community cohesion, the persistence of customary offences that remain unresolved, and the disruptive use of Gule Wamkulu within Area 25.
“The lack of a cordial working relationship between the police and the traditional structures has been a major impediment to our crime-fighting efforts,”he added.
The meeting proved to be a watershed moment, as the traditional leaders committed to a new path of cooperation.
Following a successful dialogue, Sub-Traditional Authority Chatata and Sub-Traditional Authority Nanseta officially promised to set aside their historical differences and work toward uniting their subjects.
This rapprochement is expected to have a profound impact on security, as fractured leadership has long been cited as a primary obstacle to effective policing and community mobilization.
