Looking in the kitchen cupboard one would not miss the variety on display of the spices stocked to make the food cooked at home more appealing. The aroma from the spices on display makes any person with good intentions to want to eat anything in sight if one was not already munching what usually people eat from their kitchens.
Who could have imagined that not so long ago spices caused untold misery to some nations and groups of people. It was the catalyst for wars and in relative terms the advent on sophisticated invention of weapons for human domination against other humans deemed weaker. Spices caused some to lose their souls and in some cases it invited what we now know as slave trade with those chiefs with stronger appetites exchanging their people for the commodity.
Today spices are one of the cheapest items one can buy. Often ignored by men as a feminine commodity where once they were the front runners in outdoing each other selling whatever quantity for this was a rare precious item then. Modern day, the rich who were the most astute traders of the commodity in olden days, do not know what a spice is as most of their food is bought already prepared or prepared by hands they don’t see. One could but not cry for the old days as it is better to be common as spices are now.
