Inspirational Quotes for the Weekend

By Dr Charles Leyman Kachitsa

Although we mark the year as finished and move on into another one, most life aspects have no marked year-end completion, life goes on as it has always been. Looking around and especially looking far above into the unlimited sky, you realise that all that was has always been and will be as the journey of life continues.

What then do people need to do? There have been people who have imagined recreating the world only to discover that it is all a futile exercise as all were made and there is nothing new in this world. Now and then people talk about new things being created but all that is there in this world is people discovering or re-discovering new usage for material that would have been there already.

All that is and that will be for human use was already created. In some instances we may find new combinations for materials that make people proud and feel they are the creator, the truth is these already existed before humanity. This only points to a source that is beyond humanity, human comprehension in most instances. We have to seek and find the truth, the truth will set us free!

The quotes this week are a continuation of chosen passages from a book that teaches some aspects of how to live a life of joy in knowing that the truth is always there to set us free. I am sure that the few selected quotations listed below from this book will enlighten you to one or two life lessons. Read and enjoy:

THE HAPPINESS SECRET – FINDING TRUE CONTENTMENT by J. John

“Nowadays it’s seen as particularly ineffectual for men to be meek – but a double standard is in operation. If you listen carefully you quite often hear statements that seem to go like this: He’s a go-getter, but she’s aggressive’, He’s a high achiever, but she’s just pushy’, ‘He’s assertive, but she’s bossy’. It’s almost as if we hold on to the ancient rule that a man should never be meek while a woman should never be anything else. In fact, I think men and women have differing but equally challenging temptations in this area of power and meekness. While violence is generally considered a bad thing in both men and women, men are least expected to look tough and both men and women are expected to talk tough. The rule of our times seems to be that we mustn’t show any weakness.”

“Since our politicians need to be re-elected they do an enormous amount of market research on what the public want to hear, They calculate the public mood and focus their speeches on what appeals to society. These days, politicians highlight prosperity, health, security for ourselves, environmental protection and global justice – as long as it doesn’t adversely affect us personally! And nowhere on any national agenda do you ever find the word ‘righteousness'”

“Being righteous on a personal level really can make a difference. It’s extraordinary how, despite the vast forces of politics, culture and economics, history so often revolves around individuals. Individual men and women can start wars and stop them and it’s often solitary figures who are responsible for beginning or ending revolutions. Individuals can lead a nation over the precipice into utter disaster, or they can lead them away from the brink of oblivion. We can make a difference. One man or woman’s stand for righteousness can avert disaster.”

“Showing mercy is also difficult because it presents us with the almost irresistible temptation to gloat. If, after showing mercy, we continually allude to it we are actually not showing mercy, but manipulating other people. Clearly, mercy must be given with no strings attached. Of course, this is in stark contrast to the way in which, in many cultures including that in which Jesus lived, people accumulate mental lists of those who owe them favours. —– Finally, it’s important to note that mercy is not something which we can make another person earn or negotiate for. The whole point of mercy is that it is a gift to those who do not deserve it.”
