Habitat for Humanity Malawi has urged citizens to adopt interlocking soil-stabilized bricks as a low-cost, climate-friendly alternative for housing vulnerable households in both rural and urban areas.
Habitat for Humanity Malawi Program Director Mavuto Kholowa said green construction is vital, citing the adverse impacts of climate change facing citizens.
His sentiment also coincided with the organization’s announcement that all preparations have advanced to launch its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan on Friday, 10 July 2026, at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe,
He further said that this is outlining a 5-year roadmap to deliver stronger, safer, and more resilient communities across Malawi.
” The plan, themed “A Bold Vision for a Malawi Where Everyone Has a Decent Place to Live,” comes as the organization marks 40 years of work in the country”, he explains
Over the past four decades, Habitat has supported families affected by disasters, including Cyclone Freddy, and expanded access to clean water and safe sanitation, among other initiatives.
Chimwemwe Chipungu, Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, is expected to be the Guest of Honour at the launch.
According to the organization, the new strategy will guide expanded programs in decent and affordable housing, disaster response, and water and sanitation nationwide, as the demand for adequate shelter continues to rise.
The launch is expected to bring together government officials, development partners, and communities to set the direction for Habitat’s work over the next five years.
