Friends of Vision Welfare has donated assorted items to Nsiyaludzu Inclusive Primary School in Ntcheu as part of its mission to support vulnerable people and improve their well-being.
The donated items include, two bails of sugar, seven bags of maize, two bags of beans, three bails of soya pieces, 20 kilogrammes salt, 10 litres cooking oil, bathing and washing soap, second hand clothes and shoes all valued at K3 million.
Speaking during the donation, George Nyirenda, who represented the Board Chairperson of the organisation, said it is their core mandate to complement efforts in uplifting people’s welfare by assisting those in need.
“It is the the Vision’s mandate to ease the burden of the struggle of those in need so that they also believe that they suceed,” said Nyirenda.
He said the organisation has, this year, also reached out to St. John of God in Mzuzu and donated items to a hospital in Lilongwe.
Teacher-in-Charge for Nsiyaludzu Inclusive Primary School, Victor Lazarus, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying the school is currently facing numerous challenges in caring for learners with disabilities.
“We are a government school and receive funding from government, but most of the times we struggle because we are forced to forgo other basic needs,” said Lazarus.Speaking on behalf of the learners, Alfred Chidonthi from Mangochi, described learning at the school as one of the greatest gifts given to him, saying the school has transformed his life and mindset.
“One of the things I have learnt here is that disability is not inability. I wish to become a radio commentator and you have witnessed that I am good at commentary,” he said.
Chidonthi revealed that he was born healthy and normal at Namiyasi in Mangochi, but when he was five years old, he became paralysed due to measles which also affected his sight.
Despite his condition, he remains hopeful and determined to achieve his dreams.
Nsiyaludzu Inclusive Primary School has 38 pupils from across Malawi.
