Continuous Heavy rains have caused flash floods and damaged roads and property in Nkhotakota district leaving some families homeless.
Nkhotakota District Disaster Risk Management Officer, Romatchinga Nkhata has confirmed the development saying search and rescue operations started yesterday in dwangwa and kakuyu areas and so far over 95 people who were stranded had been rescued and currently camping at Kachele.
“The search operation is still going on as the rains continue and more places keep getting affected,” said Nkhata.
Distric Commissioner for Nkhotakota Ben matengeni Tonho said they are intouch with the department of disaster management affairs on the matter and urged people to stay vigilant.
Meanwhile, the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has urged the public to remain cautious as the country continues receiving heavy rainfall in most parts of the country.
