EGENCO Restores Electricity Capacity at Nkula B

By Wendy Mkandawire
The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) says it has successfully restored 20 MW of generation capacity at Nkula B Power Station as of 26th June 2026, boosting supply to the national grid.
According to an EGENCO statement, the unit had been on forced outage since 5th April 2026 to allow for the replacement of worn-out thrust bearing pads and corrective maintenance on the turbine assembly.
EGENCO said the restoration adds 20 megawatts back into the national power grid, a development it claims is significantly contributing to improved system reliability and availability.
The company commended stakeholders for their continued support and cooperation during the restoration process.
EGENCO further reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the optimal performance of all generating units while also pursuing initiatives aimed at increasing overall generation capacity.
The additional megawatts come as citizens across the country continue to experience persistent blackouts, a situation that has caused panic and disrupted daily business and livelihoods,
