Government has pledged to construct and complete various educational infrastructure projects, including school blocks, libraries and hostels, to improve access to education and raise standards across the country.
The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, made the commitment on Monday in Parliament while responding to questions from Members of Parliament on the government’s stance on education infrastructure development.
Msaka said government is committed to promoting education standards by making learning accessible to all learners.
He said several projects are currently being implemented and finalized, including the construction of girls’ hostels in selected Community Day Secondary Schools.
“It is government’s wish to see every learner, regardless of where they live, have access to decent learning facilities across Malawi,” Msaka said.
He further disclosed that through the Constituency Development Fund, the Ministry will work with district councils to ensure that every council has at least one notable education infrastructure project to support learning.
The Minister also revealed that government has distributed over 100 motorbikes to Primary Education Advisors to ease mobility challenges and improve school supervision.
He said the support forms part of broader efforts to strengthen monitoring and service delivery in primary schools across the country.
The pledge comes after the Ministry of Finance allocated about MK2.2 trillion to the education sector in the recent budget presentation. The funding covers wages, infrastructure development and learning resources.
According to Msaka, the allocation demonstrates government’s commitment to prioritizing education as a driver of national development.
