Minister of Youth urges the youth to be innovative

By Mary Makhiringa
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Patricia Wiskes on Wednesday called upon youths in the country to strive to be innovative in order for the country to grow.
Wiskes made the call in Balaka when she visited Springs of Hope Youth Organization, which received a financial grant from AGCOM and the National Youth Council through the Youth Innovation Fund.
Said Wiskes: “Let me urge the youths to embrace being in productive groups, which makes it easier for them to be targeted for assistance.
“It is very hard for every youth to be employed by government, but another way is for youths to be given a financial boost so that, in turn, they also employ fellow youths, thereby fulfilling the Malawi 2063 Agenda.”
Executive Director of Springs of Hope, Kumbukani Mamba, hailed the National Youth Council through the Youth Innovation Fund for the financial boost, which he said will help fulfil their goals.
He said: “We received a financial boost of 30 million kwacha from the Youth Innovation Fund, which will help unlock additional funding from AGCOM. We intend to procure a tractor and implements, acquire soybean flour processing and packaging machines, and complete a warehouse and processing facility.”
Apart from Springs of Hope, Youth for Green Economy Youth Organization from Balaka also received 17.7 million kwacha.
