Musician Mpikiti returns with new Country and Western gospel album

By Joel Phiri
Two years after his last release, Malawi’s Country and Western gospel artist Chauncy Mpikiti has returned with a new 17-track album titled Musaleme, set to launch on August 30, 2025, at Chinamwali North Seventh Day Adventist Church in Zomba.
In an interview on Tuesday, Mpikiti said the album carries messages of hope, praise, and encouragement, especially for those facing hardship or grief.
“I have produced an album that gives hope to the afflicted while praising and worshipping God,” said Mpikiti.
The Zomba-based musician said Musaleme builds on the success of his 2022 album Olema ndi Othodwa, which resonated with gospel and Country and Western music fans across the country.
Mpikiti said the album seeks to inspire listeners who have lost loved ones or are facing limited opportunities, encouraging them not to lose faith.
He added that the project includes songs such as Ndisintheni, Opanda Yesu, Misonzi Idzatha, Timtame, Nditumeni, Tisaleme, Ndiyamika, Okhawo, Moyo Usadadaule, Momm’uno, Usalire, Tsiku Lina, and Zikomo Yesu. The album also features collaborations with other artists, including Khumbo Sumani.
One of Mpikiti’s fans, Luntha Chalira, said the new music is refreshing and much-needed in Malawi’s current music landscape.
“There are not many musicians in Malawi doing Country and Western music, so this album is a breath of fresh air,” said Chalira.
Mpikiti remains one of the few artists in the country committed to the Country and Western gospel genre, combining faith and traditional musical style to reach diverse audiences.
