Inspirational Quotes for the WEEKEND

By Dr Charles Leyman Kachitsa

There is power in looking upwards to the sky no matter the time of the day and the circumstances. The sky has always surprised many with its abundance, without limit, ever present surpassing generations and to be there always. Looking up you see that there is no limit and one cannot even imagine what is beyond that which we see but cannot see its end.

It is to the sky that people look up to when they have been awed by circumstances beyond imagination. They would be in a way acknowledging that there is a power in control and far in heaven skywards which is beyond human capabilities. That power has no preferences as it chooses whomever it pleases to positions that humanly seem unfitting to the holder as seen from ordinary eyes. It is the same power that we acknowledge in all we see around us, the creator of all things.

Yet in sorrow and when there are disappointments we look to the same direction skywards as we seek answers for alleviating the undesired situations. In fact those who focus and believe in the powers beyond people have indicated that either they get the answers as solutions and or in some cases the impediment disappears miraculously. There is power in walking straight and focusing skywards to the one who created all. Therefore looking up is not a weakness but a strength for conversely the weak look down on to their feet as if that’s where they would get salvation, an indication of low confidence. Keep looking up and beyond!

The quotes this week are an extraction from the book that goes deep to look at today’s contemporary issues and try to find a befitting meaning on how people should move forward. I am sure the few selected quotations listed below from this book will enlighten you to one or two life lessons, read and enjoy:

KINGDOM COME by Malcolm Duncan

” …… It seems that all around us our communities have been changing and we don’t quite know what to do. The way people live, the way they talk, what they do with their time, how they bring up their children, the way they think about the church, the government, the world, everything seems to be different. Not only do many of us not know what to do, we are also not quite sure of how we feel about it! Like novice sailors in a small boat hit by a very large storm, we feel the force of the saying, ‘all at sea'”

“There are some dates that you never forget. The day president John F. Kennedy was assassinated, the day Diana, Princess of Wales, died and the day the twin towers of the World Trade Centre fell in New York are just a few examples. These all stand out in our memories because of the despair and heartbreak of each event. They are moments when as a nation, or as human beings, we share in a common sense of loss and despair. There are other dates which are memorable for different reasons – such as the days on which our children are born and we realise the enormity of parenting. It feels like being asked to learn how to dive, just after you have jumped from the diving board!”

“…….. When it comes to trying to think about the big ideas that shaped our communities and our culture, it is very difficult for those of us who are part of the culture to understand it objectively. Immersion makes comparison impossible. A white child in apartheid South Africa, devoid of the perspective of a black child, would have been incapable of understanding the evil system that offered the white child privilege at the expense of the black child. Understanding the underlying values of our community and culture does not happen by accident. It must be an intentional choice. If we are to engage coherently with our communities or with our colleagues, then we must make a choice to learn how they (and we!) think.”

“I think, therefore I am, we matter to ourselves as we pursue our careers, our rights and our individual freedoms, whilst simultaneously watching the fabric of society gradually break down before the wave of superficiality drug dependency, family fragmentation and loss of community which follows the tide of individualism.”
