World Bank, MDTF team engages Nkhata Bay Council on SSRLP progress

A delegation from the World Bank and Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) Social Protection visited Nkhata Bay on Monday for a monitoring mission on the implementation of the Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Project (SSRLP).

Chairperson for Multi-Donor Trust Fund from European Union Anold Chikavanga said the visit was aimed at appreciating achievements, challenges, and lessons emerging from the project at community level for the past five to six years the project has been implemented.

In his remarks, District Commissioner for Nkhata Bay, David Gondwe, expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as an opportunity to showcase ongoing work and strengthen collaboration with development partners.

According to Gondwe, 15,418 beneficiaries are benefiting from Climate Smart – Enhanced Public Works Program (CS-EPWP) in the 14 micro catchments and 6,475 beneficiaries are benefiting from Social Cash Transfer Programme in Nkhata Bay.

The delegation toured selected field sites like Kavuzi, Chintheche, Mpamba to appreciate climate-smart assets created under CS-EPWP and interact with beneficiaries benefiting from the livelihoods interventions.

The mission comprised officials from the World Bank, Multi-Donor Trust Fund, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, the National Local Government Finance Committee, COMSIP Cooperative Union, and the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare.
