Two Men Arrested in Kanengo Over Murder of Yamikani Hardwick

By Wendy Mkandawire

Police in Kanengo have arrested two men in connection with the murder of Yamikani Hardwick in Chitukula Village.

The suspects have been identified as Medson Jere, 39, and Milward Tchoka.

According to Kanengo Police Station Public Relations Officer, Macfarlen Mseteka, the arrests were made on July 10, 2026, following an intensive investigation into a suspicious death.

Mseteka said investigations established that Jere, a watchman at a company in Kanengo Industrial Area, suspected his wife was having an extramarital affair with Hardwick. He believed the two were meeting while he was on duty.

It is alleged that one night Jere returned home unexpectedly and found his wife in bed with Hardwick. He then called his younger brother, Tchoka, and together they attacked Hardwick with a hoe handle, beating him to death.

During interrogation, Tchoka told police that the two later dumped Hardwick’s body near Malika Community Day Secondary School in an attempt to avoid detection.

Following the incident, Kanengo Police detectives tracked the suspects to Mgombe Village, Traditional Authority Chimutu in Lilongwe District, where both men were arrested on July 10, 2026.

The suspects will appear in court soon to answer murder charges, once all necessary legal processes are completion of all legal paperwork.
