Police in Chitipa have arrested two men on suspicion of murdering a 60-year-old man in the district.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Monday, July 21, 2026.
According to Chitipa Police Station Public Relations Officer, Rabson Mkandawire, the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations by detectives into the death of Flaywell Sichalwe, 60, of Yanga One Village, Traditional Authority Kameme.
Sichalwe was brutally murdered during the night of June 30, 2026 at his home village.
Mkandawire said on the day of the incident, the deceased had gone out for drinks. Early the following morning, he was found lifeless inside his house, lying in a pool of blood.
A post-mortem examination conducted by medical personnel from Kameme Health Centre established that the cause of death was severe loss of blood.
The suspects have been identified as George Kalinga, 41, and Briton Mwaphachi, 45, both of Ipenza 6 Village, Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa District.
The duo will appear before court soon to answer a charge of murder, contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, police in the district have warned members of the public against taking the lives of others, saying anyone found committing such offences will face the law.
