The Weather Kids Competition

 By Mana

This story in pictures below is about the Weather Kids Competition on essay and poem writing on weather related issues from Nsanje and Chikwawa primary schools.

Through this competition, UNICEF in conjunction with the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCSM) nominated two successful schools from Nsanje and the other two from Chikwawa.

DCCMS Chief Meteorologist, Yobu Kachiwanda,  presented gifts such as exercise books, pens and school bags to learners from St. Matthew’s Primary School and Kapichira Primary School from Chikwawa and Nkapako Primary School and Bangula Primary School from Nsanje.

Three children from Nsanje and three children from Chikwawa won the weather kids competition where UNICEF thought it wise to appreciate them by giving them a trip to Blantyre where they lodged at Victoria Hotel and thereafter visited DCCMS headquarters in Blantyre. They then proceeded to Chileka International Airport weather station where they appreciated how aeroplane pilots communicate with weather specialists.

Malawi News agency (MANA) photojournalist, Abel Ikiloni, captured the event on camera.
