Malawi national football women team has reached the WAFCON final after defeating Algeria 3-1 on Wednesday in Morocco to secure their final match.
Malawi coach Love more Fazili said he was happy for the progress of his players because they worked hard to achieve the win.
The coach advised his players to work hard to win the game against Cameroon on 16 August
During the game of Malawi Vs Algeria, Tabitha Chawinga scored two goals and a goal was scored by Temwa.
The historic win sparked nationwide celebrations, with Sports Minister Alfred Gangata joining the team in the dressing room in Rabat after the final whistle.
The minister praised the girls for their top-notch performance in the semifinal, which saw Malawi thrashing Algeria 3-1 to advance to the WAFCON final.
He called for unity among citizens and encouraged girls to accelerate efforts to grab the championship.
Different organizations have praised the team, including President Peter Mutharika.
Meanwhile, NBS Bank also announced a K245 million reward for the 48-member delegation for their hard work and historic achievement.
According to NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer Temwani Simwaka, each player will receive K7 million credited directly to their accounts, with the remainder going to technical and support staff.
The bank added that it will also provide financial literacy and wealth management training to help the team protect and grow their earnings.
Scorchers head coach Lavemore Fazili praised the girls and urged them to dedicate more effort to achieve victory and win the final against Cameroon.
Commenting on the matter, football analyst Edwin Mbewe hailed the Scorchers for their performance and backed Sports Minister Alfred Gangata’s efforts to promote unity among all Malawians.
