Malawi National Women’s Football Team (Scorchers) coach Lovemore Fazili has described the WAFCON tournament journey as phenomenal despite a 3-0 defeat to Cameroon in the WAFCON Final on Sunday 16 , August,2026.
Speaking during the post-match interview, Fazili said Malawi failed to attack in the first half, which allowed Cameroon to take control early.

Malawi pushed for a response after the break, but Cameroon’s solid defense denied captain Tabitha Chawinga a chance from close range.
Despite the loss, Fazili said reaching the final in Malawi’s debut WAFCON appearance marks a historic milestone for the team.
” Malawi has written a remarkable history for itself as it now aims to build towards the World Cup”, he added.
The coach said the team will use lessons from the tournament to prepare for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Fazili added that WAFCON also created opportunities for players, with several Scorchers being scouted by overseas clubs during the competition.
