Sacrifice of Brokenness

There is a kind of sacrifice that God recommends, but sadly, it is missing in the present-day church. It is the sacrifice of brokenness that David talked about:

Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

What is a broken spirit? It is a heart that is honest to self, recognizes sin and truly repents. God does not despise that kind of a sacrifice. You see, today people can worship God while holding sins in their hearts. They know they are practicing fornication, idolatry, wickedness yet they paint a picture that all is rosy in their lives, deceiving themselves in the process.

God will be more pleased when we spend more time repenting and searching our own hearts than trying to put up a show of worship to please men! True worship begins at the place of brokenness.
