RBM governor congratulates Silver Strikers football club

By Praise Malonga
Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor Dr. McDonald Mafuta Mwale, has congratulated the Silver Strikers football club for reaching the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The Governor made these remarks on Wednesday during a visit to the team’s camp ahead of their trip to Tanzania on Thursday, where they will face Young Africans Sports Club on Saturday.
Mwale said what Silver Strikers has done is very commendable, considering this is the first time in history they have participated in such a competition and reached this level.
“I was telling the players that no parent denies support to a child who is doing well in school, so in this case, they are giving us a lot of hope and courage so we can support the team even further.
“As a central bank, we had our board approve a budget for them, and we can only continue supporting them because we know they will represent the country well, and the country itself is supporting the team,” Mwale said.
Mwale also urged the players to give it their all when playing this coming Saturday because the game will be tough since they will be playing away.
“I believe the players know they are not guaranteed a win. I want them to approach this game as if they are losing so that they work hard and bring home good results,” he concluded.
One supporter of the Silver Strikers team, Timothy Banda, thanked Dr. Mwale for supporting the team as it is representing Malawi internationally.
“This is good news to hear. The support that the Reserve Bank will give to the players will act as a motivation factor for the boys to commit to the game and bring good results. If the country continues supporting local teams and football like this, Malawi will one day be on the map,” Banda said.
Silver Strikers won at home in the first leg of the CAF Champions League Second Preliminary Round against Young Africans Sports Club at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
