President Mutharika Calls for Stronger Collaboration with MCCCI on Economy and Climate

By Wendy Mkandawire

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has called for continued collaboration between government and the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) on economic development and climate change.

Speaking during an engagement meeting with MCCCI on Friday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, President Mutharika commended the existing relationship between government and the private sector, saying it is key to addressing issues of national importance.

He noted that the partnership has the potential to drive the country’s development forward.

In his remarks, MCCCI President Ronald Ngwira said the private sector has submitted a document outlining potential solutions to current challenges and a roadmap for moving forward for the benefit of Malawians and the business community.

He added that the private sector will partner with the government on the El Niño response, work to remove bottlenecks, and celebrate small wins in policy reforms.

He further said that during the discussion the meeting centered on financing opportunities, transparency, policy space, energy, and foreign exchange.

“We had the opportunity to be the voice of our members by bringing forward their concerns and also proposing solutions. We will do this by working together with ministries and the Office of the President,” Ngwira said.
