The Malawi Police Service has arrested Pofera Boma, 52, on suspicion of involvement in the shooting of a pregnant woman and a robbery that occurred at area 25, Sector 5, New Lines.
According to Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Macfarlen Mseteka, the suspect was arrested on September 6, 2026, following investigations launched after the incident was reported on September 3, 2026.
Preliminary investigations established compelling intelligence linking Boma to the robbery. Nepiyala was seriously injured and is still receiving treatment in hospital.
Boma, a businessman at Nsungwi Market, will appear in court once investigations are complete. Police are still tracing the remaining four suspects and working to recover the firearm used in the attack.
Meanwhile a related development, Kanengo Police have also arrested a Kabaza operator, Gift Fole, suspected of ferrying criminals during robberies in Area 25.
Mseteka said Fole admitted to transporting robbers and led detectives to Chinsapo 2, where stolen goods were being delivered.
Following his arrest, police recovered 43 coils of wire, 1 welding machine, 9 car batteries, and 24 vehicle mirrors believed to have been stolen from homes around Area 25. Investigations are ongoing to link the suspects to other armed robberies in the area.
Kanengo Police have urged businesses in Nsungwi and Area 25 to strengthen their security and avoid moving large sums of money late at night.
“The community is further encouraged to request police escort services when transporting money from shops to banks,” Mseteka said.
