NTAM to host theatrical charity show for Dimingu

National Theatre Association of Malawi (NTAM) – Southern Chapter is set to host a Theatrical Charity Show on July 7 at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre to raise money for a popular radio drama actor, Penno Mussa popularly as Dimingu who needs a Gastrointestinal surgery in August this year.

Secretary General for the NTAM Southern Region Chapter who is also Chairperson of the charity show’s organising committee, Foster Bulla told Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Thursday that the idea to use arts to raise the money was made simply to see the power of theatrical arts.

“We were concerned with the plight of our friend, Penno Mussa’s health. He has been sick for over seven years and we feel obliged to raise money for his surgery in August.

“We need to come in and that is why we have organised this charity show. People should expect powerful actions and this show will act as a return of theatre,” he said, adding that the show will have a number of activities such as poetry, dances, comedy and drama.

One of the actresses set to perform at the show, Flora Suya of the Last Fishing Boat fame, said she will perform a comedy to bring humour and hope, entertainment and educating theatre lovers at the same time.

“We hope that theatre lovers will come in large numbers to support our cause and bring whatever amount they can spare to help our colleague, Penno Mussa,” she added.

Apart from Flora Suya, other well-known radio and TV actors and actresses will appear on stage at the Theatrical Charity Show, citing; Vice President, Dr. Michael Usi as Manganya, Ching’aning’ani, Sasoka, Giling’ande and Nanyoni.

Poet, Sylvester Kalizang’oma and upcoming stars from Nzeka Arts Judges Dance Troupe and Dikamawoko Dance Troupe will show up to do their part to spice up the show.

Mussa aka Dimingu, an actor on MBC 1 radio drama, Pamajiga speaks in Sena accent and mostly acts as Nyoni’s nephew.
