New curriculum to foster innovation, entrepreneurship in higher education

By Patience Longwe

Minister of  Higher Education, Jessie Kabwila, has embarked on an ambitious plan to revamp the country’s higher education curriculum with a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.

In her remarks at Golden Peacock in Lilongwe Friday evening, Kabwila said the new curriculum is designed to tackle the nation’s high unemployment rate by equipping students with skills and knowledge needed to succeed in modern job market.

“By incorporating innovation and entrepreneurship into the higher education curriculum, the ministry hopes to empower students to become job creators rather than just job seekers.

“This proactive approach is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy as a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators emerge,” she said.

Kabwila confirmed that most institutions of higher learning are already mobilizing resources to implement the new curriculum.

“This collaborative effort aims to ensure a seamless transition and effective delivery of the revised curriculum,” she said.

The implementation of the new curriculum is a significant step towards addressing Malawi’s unemployment challenges and promoting sustainable economic growth.
