By Salome Gangire

Neno District Council has elected Councillor Joseph Chiphaliwali for Ligowe Ward as its new chairperson replacing Councillor Montfort Bwanali of Chilimbondo Ward during its council elective meeting held on Monday at Neno Integrated Youth Centre.

Chiphaliwali (DPP), who previously served as Vice Chairperson for the council, amassed four votes against Biswick Maganga of Chikonde Ward who had two votes.

Bwanali, who previously served as the council chairperson, was voted as the vice chairperson after he emerged victorious with four votes surpassing his contender councillor Mark Ngwangwa (DPP) of Lisungwi Ward who obtained two votes.

In his acceptance speech, Chiphaliwali said his main focus will be to develop Neno District so that it should transform by working together with Members of Parliament (MPs) and the council secretariat.

He said his main agenda is to unite councillors and MPs in a bid to foster development.

“Together with my fellow councillors and parliamentarians, we will make sure that development activities are finalized,” he said.

Neno District Council has two members of Parliament and four ward councillors.
