By Patience Longwe
Mulhako Wa Lhomwe will host a fundraising dinner on July 4, 2026, at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe, aiming to raise K300 million for this years annual festival, scheduled for October 18, 2026, at Chonde Culture Heritage Centre.
Speaking during a press briefing at Edge Water Court in Lilongwe, Chairperson for the 2026 Mulhako Wa Lhomwe fundraising dinner, Grant Chikweza, said proceeds from the event will finance the October festival and support community programmes targeting the elderly and girls’ education.
“Part of the money will help elderly people in our communities buy basic needs and we will also support the girl child by paying schools fees,” he said.
Chikweza added that the dinner will feature cultural dances, Lhomwe food, and the sale of traditional products such as Gondolosi.
He said they will also launch the official Mulhako Wa Lhomwe Website during the event.
“People will now have the opportunity to follow us and know our different events through the Website,” he said.
Chikweza appealed to members of the Lhomwe community to support the initiative, noting that the cultural grouping does not receive government funding.
He further called on people from other cultural groups to attend the fundraising dinner, saying the event is meant to promote unity.
“Out of the initial 200 tickets printed, 50 have already been sold. Due to rising demand, the committee has added another 200 tickets, bringing the total to 400,” he said.
Chikweza further said the tickets are available in four categories, namely, Standard, at K250,000; Gold, at K350,000; Platinum, at K2.5 million; and Corporate Table, at K10 million.
The chairperson was accompanied by Jubeki Muonjeza trustee for Mulhako Wa Lhomwe, Chifundo Dimasi, catering coordinator for the 2026 Mulhako Wa Lhomwe.
