In a heartwarming show of compassion, Chief Organizer for Miss Malawi, Benadetor Mweso, has called for collective support in a campaign to raise K80 million for Graceland Orphanage, a home caring for children with various disabilities.
Speaking during a donation event on Wednesday at the orphanages residence in Area 49, Lilongwe, Mweso emphasised the importance of working together to support children with disabilities, describing such efforts as critical to nurturing future leaders.
Assisting children with disabilities is not just a charitable act; its an investment in Malawis future, she stated.
Mweso expressed gratitude to individuals and organizations that have already contributed, including Prophetess Mary Bushiri, outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Vera Kamtukule, and other key stakeholders.
“In a heartfelt initiative to uplift the lives of children at Graceland Orphanage, we delivered essential items including bales of sugar, bags of maize, 100 buckets, rice, Irish potatoes, notebooks, and various other supplies, all worth over five million Kwacha,” said Mweso.
Founder of Graceland Orphanage, Mrs. Pamela Chipeka, praised the spirit of collaboration demonstrated by the Miss Malawi team and other stakeholders, including representatives from Chitomero and local community leaders.
She noted that while the support is appreciated, more assistance is needed to meet the daily accommodation and care needs of the children.
This is a reminder that while every donation counts, the journey of compassion continues.
“Lets come together to make a lasting difference because every child deserves a chance to thrive. This is more than just a donation; its a message of love, inclusion, and hope. We are grateful for everyone who has believed in our mission,” said Chipeka.
Adding his voice to the cause, esteemed Malawian actor Tumpe Mtaya, popularly known as Phwedo, lauded Graceland Orphanages initiative as a beacon of love and dedication.
“This initiative is a reflection of true kindness. I encourage both the public and private sectors to form inclusive partnerships that support children with disabilities,” urged Mtaya.
Founded in 2020, Graceland Orphanage is committed to nurturing talent, providing education, and creating opportunities for children with disabilities.
The K80 million fundraising campaign seeks to expand accommodation facilities to ensure a safe and supportive environment for even more children in need.
