Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, and Decentralization Joseph Mwanamvekha has commended members of Parliament for their overwhelming support in passing 12 bills in three days, describing it as a remarkable achievement towards the government’s commitment.
Speaking after the deliberations, Mwanamvekha said the first three financial bills are aimed at modernizing legislation, including replacing cheques with digital payment methods.

According to Mwanamveka, the passing of 12 bills in three days is a remarkable achievement towards government commitment, and therefore commended legislators for their concerted effort in supporting the bills.
He further highlighted that the fourth bill, which focused on regulating economists in Malawi, will help ensure that there is professionalism and accountability, which he described as crucial for credibility and value in the field.
The minister further emphasized that the legislation was important for promoting transparency and professionalism in economics.
In his remarks, the chairperson of the Parliamentary Budget and Finance Committee, Sosten Gwengwe, called for intensified public sensitization for a better understanding of new systems in the adaptation of digital payment.
He further highlighted that the introduction of the Economic Society of Malawi will help promote professionalism among economists in the country, citing some societies as good examples.
The minister further emphasized that other bills passed will help implement specific measures aimed at preventing cybercrimes, among other things.
