Soccer pundit Parry Chinyama has described Mighty Wanderers’ decision to temporarily suspend coach Bob Mpinganjira as “timely,” arguing that the coach lacked coordination and made poor player selections despite having a quality squad.
Chinyama made the remarks following Mpinganjira’s suspension after Wanderers lost 2-1 to Ekhaya FC in the Airtel Top 8 final at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday. Ekhaya were crowned champions on the day.
Chinyama said that it was disappointing to watch Wanderers lose a final with the depth and quality available in the squad, pointing to failures by the technical bench to get the balance right in both the starting XI and in-game changes.
The result sparked frustration among Wanderers supporters, many of whom questioned Mpinganjira’s tactics and personnel choices against the newly promoted Ekhaya side.
For Ekhaya FC, the victory marked the club’s first major silverware since earning promotion to the TNM Super League.
The 2-1 win over the Nomads earned them the Airtel Top 8 trophy and ended Wanderers’ hopes of early-season honors.
Wanderers’ management is yet to announce interim technical arrangements as preparations for the club’s upcoming CAF assignment continue.
