The Malawi Electrol Commission MEC says it will this week gather political players and stakeholders for a national conference to dissect the 2025 general election and map the road to 2030
According to MEC’s Director of communications Sangwan Mwafulirwa, the meeting is set for 20 August, 2026, in Lilongwe where the commission will use the forum to present its final post -election review report.

Mwafulirwa said the conference is not just about the past, but about preparing for the next cycle.
He explained that the commission will use the conference to present its final post-election review report as it is also gearing up for the 2030 general elections.
According to him, key agenda items include consolidating observations, challenges, lessons learned, and recommendations raised during the review of the 2025 elections.
MEC also expects a broad turnout, including representatives from political parties, government ministries, departments and agencies, development partners, and civil society organizations.
The conference comes at a time of friction between MEC and the government following President Mutharika’s executive directive to relocate the Commission’s headquarters from Lilongwe to Blantyre.
