Emerging Malawian musician Felix Malonie Chisiza, popularly known as Malonie Kyz, is set to release a new collaborative project next week as he seeks to build on the success of his breakthrough single, “Sizinantole.”
The artist said the upcoming release, featuring fellow upcoming musician Oana, will be accompanied by a music video and forms part of a broader strategy to expand his audience and strengthen his presence in the country’s music industry.
Malonie Kyz said he is also working on several other collaborations, which he believes will help elevate his career and create opportunities to work with established regional and international artists.
The musician, who began recording original songs in 2018, has steadily gained recognition for music that focuses on relatable experiences and social messages.
Drawing inspiration from veteran Malawian artists Anthony Makondetsa and Skeffa Chimoto, he said his music is anchored in storytelling and real-life experiences.
“I like telling stories that people can relate to. Whether it is about love or everyday life, I want my music to carry a message that connects with listeners,” he said.Among his notable releases is “Uthenga”, a song released in 2025 that he describes as one of his most personal works.
However, it was “Sizinantole” that marked a turning point in his career, earning him wider recognition and performance opportunities, including sharing the stage with established artists at Soche Hotel in Blantyre.
Despite the progress, Malonie Kyz said financial constraints remain one of the biggest challenges facing emerging artists, particularly in areas such as branding, marketing and promotion.
He also cited limited access to professional management and industry networks as barriers to growth for many upcoming musicians.
The artist urged fellow musicians to remain patient and focused on developing their craft.
“Success takes time. Upcoming artists need to work hard, remain consistent and avoid rushing into agreements that may affect their careers in the future,” he said.
As he prepares for the release of his latest project, Malonie Kyz remains optimistic that his commitment to authentic storytelling will help him reach new audiences and establish himself as one of the country’s promising musical talents.
