The Ministry of Health and Sanitation says Malawi’s HIV response has benefited significantly from financial and technical support from development partners in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Speaking in Blantyre on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, during a nationwide assessment ahead of the planned transition of HIV services, the Secretary for Administration in the Ministry, Benson Chisamile, said the assessment is critical to identifying and addressing any gaps that could affect the continuity, quality and accessibility of HIV services during the transition.
He said partners are supporting key areas such as the deployment of health workers to health facilities to provide a range of HIV services, including HIV testing, Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) initiation and treatment support, counselling, and programme coordination.
As part of preparations for the transition, Chisamile said government has trained more than 700 health workers across the country to strengthen its capacity to take over functions currently supported by partner-deployed personnel and ensure continuity of HIV services.
“We have relied on our partners for a long time and we are grateful for the support they have given us,” he said.
Chisamile is leading Team 4, which will conduct assessments in Chiradzulu, Zomba, Mangochi and Machinga.
